Starting a junk removal business with $5k, is it doable?
I've got about $5,000 saved and a 2014 Silverado 1500. Thinking about starting junk removal on the side while I keep my day job, weekends at first and see how it goes. Should I spend it on a used dump trailer or start with a cheaper utility trailer? And what do I need before my first job, LLC, insurance, business license? Don't wanna get in trouble before I even start

Very doable. Start with a used 6x12 or 7x14 utility trailer and build the sides up, you can find them for 2-3k. Dump trailer is nice but you can unload by hand at first. Get general liability insurance before your first job, one broken window or scratched floor and you're done
LLC is cheap in most states, just do it. Open a separate bank account from day one too, makes taxes way easier
Dont forget dump fees in your budget. My first few months I was losing money because I wasn't pricing in the landfill. Call your landfill and transfer station and ask the rate per ton before you quote anybody
Gloves, boots, ratchet straps, a tarp, a dolly and a good shovel. Tarp your load every time, fines for unsecured loads are no joke
This is gold, thanks guys. Will a 1500 be ok with a loaded 7x14 or should I stick to the 6x12?
Stick to the 6x12 with a 1500 and don't overload it. Upgrade the truck once the money comes in
